The practice of meditation during the 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat, particularly The Meditation of Greater Illumination (GI), creates a foundation from which students can continue to build on by practicing daily. This makes a physical and emotional difference and helps with relationships and careers. On the last day of the retreat, students shared and listened to the inspiring stories of transformation.

Among the more than 150 students, many were family – four sisters, two groups of three sisters, mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, couples, and friends. Also in attendance were six people who traveled from Romania for a “vacation for the soul”. They said that it was easy to make the decision to fly to Canada because the Bodhi Meditation Centre is like a magnet that attracts them. “Bodhi Meditation is the secret to health and happiness,” they said.

We will be sharing some of the stories over the next few days.

Carla’s Story

Carla 2016

Carla’s world fell apart in 2015 from the pain of a bulging disc in her neck. She was on hydromorphone, one of the strongest pain medications available. She was miserable and felt like a zombie. She didn’t care about anything. Her kidneys and heart were failing and her liver was enlarged. All from pain.

In spring of 2016, her massage therapist told her, “You need to practice Bodhi Meditation to get your energy back.”

Carla attended her first 8.5-day retreat in June. When she got home on the first day, her husband asked what they did at the retreat. “We did GI a hundred times and patted for an hour.” He asked if she felt better. “I don’t think so.” The next day he asked her again, “What did you do today?” To which she replied, “Two hundred GIs and two hours of patting.” The next day, he asked again. “Three hundred GIs and three hours of patting.” Her husband said, “You look better.” After a moment, she said, “I feel better.” He told her she should keep going.

One of the side effects of the drugs was nausea and lack of appetite. After an energy healing on Day 6 of the retreat, her stomach hurt and she realized she was hungry and needed to eat right away. When she walked in the door, her husband said she looked good. “I ate today!”

Carla continued attending the Thursday night practice and did her GI practice at home. The more GIs she did, the strong she got. Slowly over the summer she regained her life. No longer was she in bed all day. She could actually do things. She’s been off pain medication since September 4th.
