The reasons people come to the 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat vary: Loss and grief, pain, because a parent insisted, to support a parent who is attending, to grow spiritually, to boost the immune system, to harmonize a relationship, to find hope in a hopeless world. Optimism.

One student, who has been at Bodhi Meditation for several years, said at the end of the retreat that she was so grateful for Grandmaster JinBodhi’s practice when she feels helpless to help others. The energy from our practice helps us, but it is also far-reaching, giving peace of mind and healing to those we love. Compassion.

Another student, who is retired and has been at Bodhi Meditation for two years, said that she could now stand in front of a class and talk. She’d never have been able to do that prior to her meditation practice. Courage.

Back and should pain disappeared for another student. Appreciation for parents from another. The transformations were visible: Smiles, relaxed facial expressions, with optimism and an openness to what life has to offer.

Here’s what other students shared:

Ariel's 8.5-Day Meditation Retreat Sharing
Ariel

Ariel: I needed to find something to help me through my grief of losing my son, to be my strength and to be a space for these emotions that come when they come.  My friend Tricia had talked to me about meditation and she said she would take me to the 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Retreat at Bodhi Meditation on Saturday; Catherine would be assisting the class and they would drive me there and make it the best it could possibly be for me. And it was wonderful. I want to say I’m so grateful because I couldn’t have done this journey myself. I feel there is a light back on inside of me and I know my son will not be in this physical space but I feel he is with me and I know when I practice, I can be closer to him because I am part of the Universe.  I am grateful for all the things I have in my life; that I’m close to his girlfriend’s family and that now I can figure out how to go on with this next journey; this is very different. Thank you to Grandmaster JinBodhi for this beautiful center and thank you to everyone for being here.

Belle's 8.5-Day Meditation Retreat Sharing
Belle

Belle: This is a happy story. My son Aaron has always had sweaty palms and sweaty feet. He googled to find out what to do and saw that there were injections for it. He sweats when he’s nervous, excited, for all sorts of emotions. I learned from the teachings during the retreat that sweating is good as it releases toxins and blockages.  Yesterday I bought some Pu-erh tea and I was told that I would need to hammer it into small pieces, so I asked Aaron for a hammer.  Aaron said he thought he could break it up. So, I opened the package and he went to grab for it and I said, “Stop! I don’t want your sweaty hands on it.”  Aaron said, “Look my hands aren’t sweaty now.” He touched me to show me they were dry.  “Okay, you can break the leaves for me.”  He broke the leaves into pieces and I said, “Wow! You’re so strong!”  Then I told him about what I’d learned about sweating being good for releasing toxins and blockages. Knowledge is empowering!  And he felt really good about it.

BinMiao's 8.5-Day Meditation Retreat Sharing
Bin Miao

Bin Miao: A long-time student of Grandmaster JinBodhi, Bin Miao shared her story with the class. During the chanting session for fathers, she saw that her father, who passed away 23 years ago, looked very sad. So, she offered a 15-day lotus lamp for her father that same day. The next day during the chanting session for mothers, she saw her father sitting on a lotus. He said, “Thank you, daughter.”  By accumulating merits for our parents, we can help our deceased parents receive blessings and guidance from Buddha, and to be reborn in the pure land. This is filial piety at its best.

Since she started practicing meditation, Bin Miao has been collecting merits and praying for Buddha’s blessings and protection for her loved ones. The entire family cherishes the 64 trigrams introduced by Grandmaster JinBodhi and finds them very effective. Her three-year-old granddaughter is healthy and intelligent, and always picks the card “Manjushuri loves me”.  The 64 trigrams have also guided Bin Miao’s daughter whenever she needs guidance in her career. She successfully got into a management position, and her career is very promising.
