Bodhi Meditation opened the doors to the public this past weekend from 10am to 4pm. This may not make sense to those who know Bodhi Meditation as their doors are open to the public every day of the year for 5am to 9:30pm. What was so different about the weekend of June 3rd and 4th? Bodhi partnered with the 10th Annual Doors Open Richmond event, organized through the Richmond Museum Society and the City of Richmond to celebrate Richmond’s history, heritage, architecture, culture, art scene, and natural environment.

It was an opportunity for people who might drive by but never find the time to stop and see what lies beyond the signs and the front doors. One visitor said that he came to find out more about “the man in the yellow robes with his arms extended wide”. He’d noticed the Bodhi Meditation ad at the Skytrain stations. Others came because they were interested in meditation and curious about how it could impact their lives.

Many volunteers greeted visitors and gave them a tour of the Centre, pointing out the candles, the meditation halls, introducing them to Master JinBodhi’s vow to help all sentient beings, and inviting them to participate in a half-hour relaxation meditation or Energy Bagua, a walking meditation. All visitors left with an orange Bodhi bag filled with Meditation & Health magazines, and other Bodhi memorabilia. Some signed up for the half day introduction on June 24 and others said they’ll come to a Thursday evening class.

This unique weekend event connected people with sites and buildings they know and gave them an inside look at what normally takes place behind their doors.  Visitors could explore a broad spectrum of culture and heritage by mapping out a rich experience for themselves and their families. Bodhi was pleased to be one of those experiences for people to try for the first time. And our doors are open when they return.
