Happy New Year of the Tiger!

According to the lunar calendar, this coming Year of the Tiger begins February 1, 2022.

If you were born in 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, or 2010, you were born during the Year of the Tiger. What does this mean for those born under this sign?

Native to China, the tiger is considered the King of the Jungle, symbolizing righteousness, authority, courage, strength and bravery.

In the role of authority, and because it represents great power and protection over human life, the tiger is considered the guardian of the home, warding off theft, fire, ghosts, disease and evil.

The tiger image can be seen on entrance doors, in living rooms and even bedrooms. It can also be seen on children’s clothes, shoes and hats, especially for young boys. As well as protection, the hope is that the tiger will bestow its energy, power and courage on the residents or the people. As the Chinese saying goes, “The Majestic Tiger puts down all evil.”

What you may not know about the Tiger (虎 hǔ) is that its pronunciation is similar to “Good Fortune” (福 fú)  in the Chinese language. You can find many Chinese paintings for the New Year including a tiger guarding wealth and luck.

This is Grandmaster JinBodhi’s calligraphy of the Chinese character “Fortune”.

May everyone be blessed with good fortune and auspiciousness in the coming year!
