How to Continue Bodhi Practice While on Vacation

By Noel Boughner

It occurred to me that people on vacation might wonder how to maintain their Bodhi Meditation in order to retain or improve their health and happiness. I was on vacation last winter and wanted to continue my practice, not only to continue my health and happiness, but to retain my connection with my Bodhi family in Vancouver and my connection to Grandmaster JinBodhi. The first thing I did was to take my collection of Bodhi magazines with me to reread as the mood struck. As you know, these magazines can be reread many times and I believe that each reading brings more insight and understanding.

Next, I bring the DVDs for The Meditation of Greater Illumination (GI) and The Meditation of Purity. Also, as the desire was felt, I would access one of Grandmaster JinBodhi’s many teachings (with English subtitles) on YouTube. I also recommend that at various times during the day you let your mind wander to the many blessings that you have received from Grandmaster JinBodhi’s teachings.

I know that the recommended minimum amount of daily meditation includes three GIs and one Purity, however, if you are unable to complete them all, at least try to do one GI and one Purity daily. If you know any chanting, you can chant at any time during the day. Chanting can be done when the desire to do so strikes; perhaps play a chanting CD in the car or at home.

If you know how to prostrate, any number of prostrations you wish to do at a convenient time is extremely helpful.

The bottom line is the more you remain connected with your Bodhi practice the happier and healthier you will be.  In your heart, you will also feel your connection to your Bodhi family and to Grandmaster JinBodhi. There are links to many of Grandmaster JinBodhi’s teachings on the Bodhi Meditation Vancouver website. It is also a great place to follow the activities happening at the center.

On YouTube, you can find a cornucopia of information concerning Bodhi Meditation. Just type the words “bodhi meditation” and a whole world of Bodhi will open for you.

If you follow as many of the activities as possible that I have listed, taking into consideration that you are on vacation, I am positive that you will return to the Bodhi center totally refreshed and feeling happy.
