Family. So often, people come to Bodhi because a family has recommend it to them, or others in the family notice a transformation and are curious about the meditation. This retreat was no different. As well, several of those who had been to a retreat before shared what happened and this retreat as well as what happened after previous retreats. Here are more stories:

Damonde initially came to a retreat because he was looking for a place that would help heal his mom Cheryl. She’d been suffering from MS and fibromyalgia for twenty years. She could barely walk when he brought her to their first retreat in 2015. By the end of the retreat she was skipping. “I want everyone to know that you are at the right place,” he told the group. “My mom’s favourite time of year is coming to Bodhi.”

For himself, Damonde feels great and said he and his mom are both calm. “I watch people come in on Day 1 and transform by Day 8. That’s the reward of coming here.”

He advised everyone to keep practicing. “Only good is going to happen.”

For Cheryl, the first retreat was profound and healing.

She had illness in her body for many years and knew the cause was from the pain and suffering of watching the pain and suffering of one of her three children.

Her third son had a difficult time coming into the world and was in the care of others. Traumatized, he couldn’t communicate. Now thirty-two years old, he depends on many people and suffers a lot. He’s fearful, angry, and shamed and so wants to be like his brothers.

While chanting in the beautiful energy at this retreat, she asked, “Please chant this love for Kalen.” She felt more energy in the room and saw in her mind’s eye all of the students walking in a circle around Kalen. Then Grandmaster JinBodhi appeared and she watched as he put his hand on Kalen’s head, turned around and looked at her with so much love. She knew everything was going to be okay. She knew she wasn’t alone and she knew Kalen wasn’t either. “I had pain in my heart for so many years. I didn’t expect this kind of healing.  Every time I’m here, the healing gets bigger and bigger.”

Danielle thanked her Auntie D for always knowing what she needs. She’d had a hard time after her mother died in October 2016. She remembered that her aunt had told her about Bodhi Meditation before her mother died and so she came to a retreat in January without telling her. Before losing her mother, she’d been so social, but afterwards she was in a dark place. “Being around so may people at the retreat brought me back to who I am.”

Diana shared that for the past few months she’d been caring for her ninety-year-old aunt. Her aunt’s kidneys were functioning at twenty-five percent, but increased to thirty-five percent which Diana attributes to Bodhi Meditation’s blessed Puerh tea which she had been serving her during the day. Her aunt’s doctor said, “Keep doing what you’re doing.”

Elise was in so much pain one day she could barely walk. During her second Meditation of Greater Illumination (GI), she felt immense heat. She lay down, got extremely cold, stood up and could walk without difficulty. She could even cross her legs. It was a miraculous week.

One of the teaching assistants told her that doing GI was like dental health. You have to maintain it. Little did the TA know that she had worked in dental care for twenty years. That resonated with her.

One night her husband asked her, “What are you bringing home?”

She said, “Tools to be a better person.”

She had a question for the teacher. “How do I explain this to my friends who don’t believe in it?”

The teacher answered, “They will notice the difference.”
